China sourcing and manufacturing
Fabric & Textile Sourcing in China
Choose fabric by composition, construction and intended use, not a photograph alone. Compare samples before committing to a production lot.

Turn the design brief into a fabric specification
Record fiber composition, construction, fabric weight in GSM, width, finish and intended use. For stretch fabrics, define how stretch and recovery will be assessed. Describe the hand feel and appearance with reference samples where possible. A product name or marketing label does not establish the composition or performance.

Concept illustration, not a photograph of Master Shifu facilities or customer work.
Markets, mills and production suppliers
Guangzhou and other textile markets can help explore available materials and suppliers. A market seller is not necessarily the manufacturer. Clarify who produces the fabric, what is available from stock and what needs a custom production run. Compare minimum quantities, dyeing or finishing options and quoted lead times.
Sampling and color approval
Request swatches or a sample length suited to the evaluation. Compare composition evidence, feel, dimensions and agreed performance requirements. Color matching may require a defined reference and lab-dip approval before bulk dyeing. Keep approval records and identify the reference sample used for the order; screen images are not reliable color standards.
Plan testing and apparel production handover
Certification and testing requirements depend on the material, intended product and destination market. Clarify required reports with qualified testing or compliance providers. For apparel projects, coordinate fabric, trims and garment sampling so production specifications remain consistent. Inspection scope should address the approved requirements, not imply that every possible defect or compliance risk has been eliminated.

Questions before you start
Can a photo establish fabric composition or GSM?
No. A photo helps communicate appearance. Composition, weight and performance need specifications, supplier evidence and appropriate sample checks.
Does every fabric need the same certification?
No. Requirements vary with the product and destination. Confirm the relevant scope with qualified compliance or testing providers.
Can you coordinate fabric sourcing with apparel production?
Yes, the agreed scope can connect material selection, trims, samples and manufacturer communication. Responsibilities and approval steps must be clear.
