Custom Product Sourcing in China

When a catalogue product will not do, start with the specification. Find manufacturers suited to your material, function and production requirements.

Turn an unusual requirement into a sourcing brief

Custom products often combine several constraints: dimensions, material, finish, fit, operating conditions and quantity. We help organize these requirements so suppliers can assess the same job. Reference products and drawings are useful, but they should not replace the details that determine acceptance.

Match the process to the product

A supplier who can assemble a product may not perform its machining, moulding or finishing. We ask about the relevant processes and the role of subcontractors. For technical projects, supplier engineering questions are brought back to your team for review.

Keep revisions under control

Mark drawings and specifications with versions. Record which changes are approved, which still need a sample and whether a material substitution affects testing or performance. We coordinate clarification; your designated technical approver remains responsible for approving the design requirements.

Check feasibility before scaling

A one-off sample can be made differently from a production batch. Discuss the production method, repeatability, tooling and inspection approach early. Start with the evidence needed to decide whether to proceed, rather than assuming a prototype proves manufacturing readiness.

What to send us

  • Technical drawings or dimensioned reference information
  • Material, finish and functional requirements
  • Critical dimensions and agreed acceptance criteria
  • Prototype quantity, production volume and destination

What you receive

  • A sourcing brief with open technical questions
  • Suitable manufacturer options and scoped quotations
  • A plan for samples, revisions and production checks

How we manage the work

  1. Clarify the requirements

Identify the critical features and missing technical information.

  2. Assess manufacturer fit

Discuss processes, materials, tooling and feasible production methods.

  3. Validate the proposed solution

Coordinate sample review and approved revisions before a production decision.

Questions before you start

Can you work from a drawing?

Yes. Share the current revision and the requirements that matter most. We may need clarification on materials, tolerances, finishes and intended use before requesting quotes.

What if the product needs more than one factory?

The scope can include coordination across suppliers. Interfaces, responsibility for final assembly and inspection points should be defined before work starts.

Do you approve engineering designs?

We coordinate sourcing and supplier questions. Design approval, safety requirements and specialist engineering sign-off remain with the appointed qualified parties.
