China sourcing and manufacturing

Custom Metal Fabrication & Engineering Sourcing

A controlled drawing and a clear acceptance plan make custom metal sourcing more useful. Match the manufacturing process to the part and its intended function.

Use a controlled engineering package

Provide drawings with revision identifiers, material requirements, critical dimensions, finishes and the intended use. State the requested tolerances rather than assuming a manufacturer's standard capability. Clarify whether the supplier is making to your design or is also expected to propose engineering changes.

Match the process to the work

CNC machining, sheet-metal cutting and forming, welding and assembly need different equipment and experience. Ask which processes are performed in-house and which are outsourced. We compare supplier responses against the brief and identify capability claims that need further evidence. No specific grade or tolerance capability is promised without project verification.

Validate prototypes and revisions

A prototype should be evaluated against the drawing and agreed inspection method. Record deviations, proposed changes and who approves them. Material documentation, dimensions, weld requirements or finish checks may be relevant depending on the part. Keep the approved drawing and sample revision aligned before ordering production.

Define the inspection and handover

Critical features may require suitable measuring equipment or qualified specialist testing. Agree the sampling approach, acceptance criteria and required records with the responsible technical parties. Coordinate packaging and shipping so finishes and mating surfaces are protected. Sourcing coordination does not replace engineering approval or destination-product compliance review.

What to send us

  • Revision-controlled drawings and intended use
  • Material, finish and tolerance requirements
  • Prototype and production quantities
  • Critical features, inspection methods and destination

What you receive

  • Process-matched manufacturer responses
  • Quotation comparison and technical questions
  • Prototype approval and inspection coordination plan

How we manage the work

  1. Clarify the drawing

Confirm revisions, materials and critical requirements.

  2. Compare manufacturing routes

Assess process fit and supplier evidence.

  3. Approve the reference

Resolve prototype changes and define production checks.

Questions before you start

What tolerances can you guarantee?

No fixed tolerance is promised here. Required tolerances must be quoted and validated for the part, process and inspection method.

Can you source welded or sheet-metal assemblies?

We can assess manufacturer options against your drawings and agreed requirements. Specialist welding or certification needs must be identified before supplier selection.

Who approves engineering changes?

The designated responsible designer or technical owner should approve changes in writing. Procurement coordination alone is not design approval.
